I have just been on a ten day self-designed itinerary of Mauritania with three close friends. The objective was to visit the 4 UNESCO listed ancient Sahara trading cities of Oualata, Tichit, Ouadane and Chinguetti. The route took us to remote parts of Mauritania , including four days off Road and camping . We also visited the Elephant Mountains in the Sahara , along with Terjit Oasis and Mhairith Oasis , Ben Amera Monolith and the Eye of the Sahara
The itinerary was challenging, in extremely remote areas, and the days were long. In these circumstances you are completely dependent on the professionalism and capability of your guide and crew .
We simply could not have wished for a better guide than Mohamed Salem. He is not only super professional, but highly articulate in English (and several other languages) with an amazing sense of humour and a deep knowledge of his country. His candid discussions really made the trip more meaningful- we not only saw the best of Mauritania , but learned more than we ever dreamed possible about this fascinating country!
We highly recommend Mohamed Salem for any visit to Mauritania!
